On Your Mark! Get Set! GO!!

TURTLE DERBY

Come one, come all to the Bridgeport Lions Club Turtle Race to be held at the July 20 District Meeting in Bridgeport! Clubs can sponsor a turtle for $100 - but be quick! We only have 12 turtles and 3 are already spoken for! The sponsoring club of the winning turtle takes home half of the sponsor's pot - the remainder goes to the Bridgeport Lions scholarship Fund. And you as an individual Lion have a great opportunity to become an OWNER of one of the world's fastest turtles! For only $20 you can purchase ownership in one of these amazing 12 turtles and if your turtle wins, all the owners of that turtle split half of the owners kitty, with the remainder going to the Bridgeport Scholarship Fund. AND the sponsoring club of the turtle with the most owners gets to judge the race! So make your plans now to attend this first ever event at a District Meeting!

GRASS ROOT LIONS ROUND TABLE DISCUSSIONS

For those of you who will not be attending training or meetings 9:00 am to 12:15 pm you may want to stop by the New Beginnings Room to find answers to your questions about Lions in general. This can be helpful for those of you who may be new to Lions. It's an open discussion designed to provide information that may be helpful!

SUPPORT FOR DIABETES

District 2-E2 has supported diabetes programs for many years through the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) and a number of clubs in the District donate directly to this cause. This year, the JDRF has changed its name to Breakthrough T1D, so any checks should be made payable to the new name. The diabetes walk will be held again this year on November 2 in Fort Worth and District 2E2 will have a diabetes walk team, captained by Lion Sean Bryan to collect and recognize donations from the District’s clubs. Last year, our team was in the top 5 for organizational teams and we hope to do as well this year. If you would like to join us on this team, go to the main Walk webpage (https://www2.breakthrought1d.org/site/TR/Walk/NorthernTexasandOklahomaChapter4632?pg=entry&fr_id=9751) and look for the Lions District 2-E2 walk team, with Lion Sean Bryan as team captain. You can register there. If you would just like to donate to this worthy cause - and it is one of LCI's global causes - visit the donate page for the 2E2 walk team at (https://www2.breakthrought1d.org/site/Donation2?idb=1999725069&df_id=23612&FR_ID=9751&mfc_pref=T&23612.donation=form1&PROXY_ID=350001&PROXY_TYPE=22&FR_ID=9751&PROXY_ID=350001&PROXY_TYPE=22). If your club would instead like to write a check, Lion Sean would be happy to visit your club's meeting to accept it, or you can mail it directly. Please feel free to contact Lion Sean Bryan at clclionsean@gmail.com with any questions or if you would like a speaker for your club regarding diabetes.
As your District 2-E2 Communications Director, I would like to introduce your next Newsletter Editor, Lion Kevin Cook from Keller Lions Club. He will be sending out the District Newsletter during the 2024-25 Lions Year. Please welcome him and make sure you share the information you would like see in the District 2-E2 Newsletter.

He also manages the district social media pages, and would appreciate your help in sharing information about your club activities. Photos are a great way to make others aware of your presence in your communities. On that note, Lion Kevin will start a "Marketing" section in each newsletter. Keep those lines of communication open and let him know what would be helpful to you.

Lion Kevin brings an impressive amount of marketing experience and expertise to our District, and he is eager to share. If we can help you increase your Lions Club paw print by meeting with those in your club who are interested in marketing, please let Lion Kevin or I know and we can meet "live" or via Zoom with those interested in expanding Lion's visibility in your community. When your club's visibility increases, it helps every other club in the District and State!

It has been a great privilege to serve as your Newsletter Editor these past five years. However, I'm looking forward to Lion Kevin's contributions. Let's show him how loud we can ROAR!

In Service,
Lion Deb Cashen, GLT, 2E2 Communications Director
